Crystal Palace closing in on deal for West Ham trialist
Crystal Palace are closing in on a deal to sign 18-year-old West Ham trialist Jemiah Umolu following a successful trial period.
The South London Press understands that Umolu is set to pen a two-year deal at Selhurst Park.
Umolu scored and picked up two assists for Darren Powell’s U21 side against Everton in the Premier League International Cup semi final as the Eagles booked their place in the final against Jong PSV.
The striker, who has 11 goals and four assists to his name in 15 U18 appearances for West Ham this season, also spent time at Southampton on trial.
Umolu would provide a physical presence at the top end of the pitch for Darren Powell’s side, which was missing after Ademola Ola-Adebomi joined Burton Albion on loan in League One for the second half of the season.
West Ham United starlet set to pen two-year deal with Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace are set to sign West Ham United starlet Jemiah Umolu after a successful trial period, according to South London Press.
Writing on their website (8 May), the news outlet report that the 18-year-old striker scored and registered two assists for the Eagles’ Under-21 side against PSV in the Premier League International Cup semi-final.
That was enough to convince the team to offer him a two-year contract, and Umolu is set to head to Selhurst Park to follow first-team ace Ben Johnson who is also close to a move across London.
West Ham United squad exodus underway
The club have finally confirmed that David Moyes will be leaving this summer, and the expectation is that several players are going to follow him out of the door.
Alongside Johnson to Crystal Palace, Lucas Paqueta is expected to join Manchester City, while the likes of Michail Antonio, Danny Ings, Maxwel Cornet and Nayef Aguerd are expected to leave.
With Julen Lopetegui expected to take over at the London Stadium he will want to add his own stamp on the squad, and that means it’s unlikely that there will be many youth promotions into the side during his first season.
Players like Umolu will want assurances of an opportunity if they’re going to stay put and with his contract expiring, it just seems like the right thing for everyone right now that he moves on.
It’s going to be a busy summer in east London and it’s already underway, so fans can expect to have plenty of news in the coming weeks about the transfer window.
