The Washington Commanders have revealed the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellows for 2024.
Thanks to the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship, two ex-NFL athletes will have the chance to collaborate with the Washington Commanders this year.
The Washington Commanders have introduced their 2024 Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellows, Austin Walter and Tony Jones, as per the team’s press release. Walter will be part of the team for the rest
of the offseason program and the initial two weeks of training camp, while Jones will join for the first two weeks of training camp.
Walter brings experience as a former NFL running back, having played for five seasons, with his most recent stint being with the Las Vegas Raiders. On the other hand, Jones, who previously
played in Washington in 2015 after three college seasons at Northwestern, currently serves as the assistant director of player personnel at the University of Alabama, following his tenure at Merrill Lynch.
Walter had a five-season career as an NFL running back, with his most recent stint being with the Las Vegas Raiders. Jones, on the other hand, was with Washington in 2015 after completing three seasons of college football at Northwestern University.
Prior to joining the Raiders, Walter had played for the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and New York Jets. He also had a brief stint with the XFL’s Dallas Renegades in 2020. During his
college football tenure at Rice University, Walter showcased his versatility as a dual-threat running back, amassing over 1,700 rushing yards and over 800 receiving yards.
The Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship, established in 2015, provides interested and qualified candidates with exposure to a career in professional scouting. Through the program, participants
gain insights into various aspects of player personnel and scouting within a club, as part of the NFL’s Football Development program under NFL Football Operations. The fellowship is named in
honor of Bill Nunn, the longtime personnel director for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and John Wooten, a former NFL player and front-office executive.
