Bulldog basketball headed to the Bahamas

On Sunday, November 24, the Georgia Bulldogs and St. John’s will play at The Atlantis Paradise Island. Next season,

the Bulldogs will play in the Bahamas twice, first on Saturday, November 23, at Atlantis, when Georgia takes on

Marquette. Complete Sports Management (CSM), which oversees the Battle 4 Atlantis Basketball Tournament, revealed the pairings.

Both games are scheduled to take place in the Imperial Arena at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort. Details

regarding game times, ticket availability, and travel packages will be disclosed at a later time.

“We at CSM are thrilled to host two formidable teams in this idyllic setting,” stated Lea Miller, President of CSM. “We anticipate an exciting matchup early in the season.”

This upcoming game will mark the fourth encounter between the Bulldogs and St. John’s, with the Red Storm holding a 2-1 advantage in their head-to-head series.

Georgia claimed victory in the most significant matchup to date during the “Sweet 16” round of the East Regional in

the 1983 NCAA Tournament. In a surprising upset, the fourth-seeded Bulldogs defeated the top-seeded St. John’s

with a score of 70-67 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, led by Terry Fair’s remarkable 27-point performance. Georgia

proceeded to triumph over second-seeded North Carolina with a score of 82-77 before ultimately succumbing to

eventual national champion N.C. State, losing 67-60 in the Final Four held in Albuquerque.

Furthermore, in previous matchups, the Red Storm secured victories against Georgia with scores of 66

opening game of the 1946-47 season and 66-56 during the 2009-10 SEC/Big East Invitational.

Georgia’s lineup for the upcoming season includes three returning starters: Blue Cain, Silas Demary Jr., and Dylan

James. These players were part of last year’s team, which secured the Bulldogs’ first postseason bid since 2017.

Georgia advanced to the semifinals of the NIT and concluded the season with a record of 20-17, marking the program’s first 20-win campaign since 2016.

The Bulldogs have bolstered their roster with the addition of eight new players for the 2024-25 season. Among them

are freshmen Somto Cyril, Jordyn Kee, and Asa Newell, as well as transfers Justin Abson, RJ Godfrey, Tyrin

Lawrence, Dakota Leffew, and De’Shayne Montgomery. Remarkably, Georgia stands out as the sole program

nationwide to have both its high school and transfer recruiting classes ranked within the top 10 by On3.com.

Presently, the freshmen class is ranked ninth, while the transfer class holds the seventh position.
