Don’t Expect Forza Horizon 6 to Release in 2024
Last night’s Xbox Games Showcase marked a notable high point, with Microsoft unveiling a slew of surprises from Doom: The Dark Ages to the Perfect Dark remake, alongside an extensive glimpse into Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s dynamic campaign. Yet, amidst the excitement, racing enthusiasts found themselves left wanting.
Throughout the event, eager fans hoped for tidings of the forthcoming Forza Horizon installment, only to be met with silence. Forza Horizon 6 remained conspicuously absent from the lineup. Instead, Playground Games unveiled its Fable reboot slated for a 2025 release, leaving Forza noticeably absent – not even a teaser for the next Forza Motorsport update was provided.
So, what lies ahead for Forza Horizon 6?
The absence of any announcement at the Xbox Games Showcase strongly suggests that Forza Horizon 6 won’t hit the scene until at least 2025. This would mark a four-year gap since the release of Forza Horizon 5, representing the lengthiest hiatus in the series’ history. While previous entries typically arrived every two to three years, it seems the upcoming iteration will buck this trend.
With Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown having no direct opposition in September, KT Racing and Nacon can finally relax.
There has been no formal announcement of Forza Horizon 6 yet. A 2022 job posting for a level designer to work on the Forza Horizon team’s “next AAA title” and produce “fun, playable gameplay experiences” seemed to confirm its development, nevertheless.
Forza Horizon 5 had more than 10 million players in its first week of release, making it the greatest Xbox game launch ever. Since it remains one of the most played racing games of the current generation three years later, a sequel seems unavoidable.
The location of Forza Horizon 6 is unknown, but a lot of fans are hoping that the Horizon Festival will go to Japan to honor JDM and drift culture.
Forza Horizon 6’s 2024 release was already uncertain. Forza Horizon 5’s updates aren’t slowing down, despite the rumored existence of Forza Horizon 6 in production.
As its third anniversary rapidly approaches, Playground Games continues to provide consistent support for Forza Horizon 5 through monthly themed updates, introducing new vehicles, playlists, and alterations to the map. Meanwhile, a separate team is fully engaged in developing the Fable reboot.
With resources divided between Fable and ongoing Forza Horizon 5 updates, it appears that Forza Horizon 6 isn’t currently the primary focus. This dynamic is likely to shift once the pace of updates for Forza Horizon 5 slows down, enabling Playground Games to allocate more attention to the sequel.
Should Forza Horizon 6 face a delay to the following year, its announcement would probably occur at the subsequent Xbox Games Showcase in June, preceding a release in September or October 2025. However, this timeline would position Forza Horizon 6 in direct competition with GTA 6, as Take-Two Interactive has recently confirmed an autumn 2025 release window for the latter.
