Gonzaga Eyes Major Recruiting Victory with Five-Star Prospect Isiah Harwell

Gonzaga is poised to cap off an impressive offseason with a potential recruiting triumph as Isiah Harwell, a highly

coveted five-star guard and a top-10 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, has named Gonzaga among his

final four university choices. According to On3.com, Harwell is set to announce his college commitment on September 12.

In addition to Gonzaga, Harwell’s other three finalists include two Big 12 schools, Houston and Texas, as well as Cal, which recently moved from the Pac-12 to join the ACC.

Hailing from Pocatello and excelling at Wasatch Academy in Utah, Harwell boasts a lengthy list of offers from top-

tier programs such as Alabama, Baylor, BYU, Louisville, North Carolina, Arizona State, Creighton, Florida State, and many others, as reported by 247Sports.com.

Previously considering nine finalists, Harwell has narrowed his choices, eliminating North Carolina, Baylor, UCLA, Alabama, and Idaho State from contention.

Reflecting on his visit to Gonzaga during a February 24 game against Santa Clara, Harwell praised the campus

atmosphere and expressed admiration for Coach Mark Few’s office adorned with trophies, emphasizing the program’s winning culture.Top-10 recruit Isiah Harwell lists Gonzaga among final four schools | The Spokesman-Review

“Gonzaga brought incredible energy,” Harwell remarked. “Meeting the coaching staff, trainers, and players in person was a highlight. It was an amazing experience.”

Among his final four schools, Gonzaga stands out as the only one where Harwell has taken an official visit. He has also visited Houston unofficially and plans an official visit to Cal on June 25.

Harwell’s junior season at Wasatch Academy was interrupted by a knee injury, sidelining him for the rest of the season and affecting his participation in the AAU circuit. Despite setbacks, Harwell remains a top prospect, ranked as the second-best shooting guard and seventh overall prospect by 247Sports.com.

While Gonzaga has not yet secured commitments from high school recruits in the 2025 and 2026 classes, the program has bolstered its roster with transfers, including guard Braden Smith from Colgate and forward Emmanuel Innocenti from Tarleton State. Additionally, Gonzaga is linked with Ismaila Diagne, a 7-foot center from Real Madrid, offering potential for a significant addition to their lineup.

As the recruiting process unfolds, Gonzaga looks forward to potentially adding Isiah Harwell to their roster, reinforcing their standing as a destination for top basketball talent in collegiate sports.

a small school, but they definitely brought the energy. It was crazy there. My favorite part of the campus was Coach (Mark) Few’s office. I mean, he had so many trophies in there. Just being in there, you can tell he is just a winner.

“You know, going on that visit I was able to get closer with everyone there. I finally got to meet them all in person, so that was cool. The coaching staff, the trainers, the team, I got to meet everyone. It was amazing.”

Of Harwell’s four finalists, Gonzaga is the only one to have hosted the 6-foot-5 combo guard for an official visit, but he’s taken an unofficial visit to Houston and plans to take an official visit to Cal on June 25.

Harwell suffered a knee injury midway through the 2023-24 season at Wasatch Academy, forcing him to miss the remainder of his junior year and a big chunk of the AAU circuit.

The son of former Idaho State standout Ron Harwell, Isiah is the second-rated shooting guard in the country and seventh-rated overall prospect according to 247Sports.com

The Zags haven’t landed a high school commitment in the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes but have been able to build for the future with the transfer portal, signing Colgate guard Braden Smith – who will have two years of eligibility remaining after redshirting next season – and Tarleton State forward Emmanuel Innocenti, who’ll be entering his sophomore season this fall.

Gonzaga’s also been linked with 7-foot Real Madrid center Ismaila Diagne, a native of Senegal who would have four years of eligibility if he signs with the Bulldogs prior to the 2024-25 season.
