PTO World #1 Sam Long has stated that problems in his personal life affected his training for the San Francisco T100, despite having had an outstanding start to the season thus far.
After having difficulties on the West Coast the previous weekend, the American, who was scheduled to travel to Australia for IRONMAN Cairns this weekend, canceled that trip.
The Boulder native has given his opinions on the first half of 2024 and revealed the races he would be focusing on in the second half of the season before taking a two-week vacation.
In his most recent YouTube video, the ‘Big Unit’ shared his thoughts on his eighth place finish in San Francisco, which was the first time he has finished off the podium in 2024.
“That’s not good at all, off the streak I’ve been having, but if you look at the race margins, I was +2:10 down in eighth, and I was approximately 90 seconds behind in both of the races I finished second in.
“There is no race like this one, and I thought our performance in the T100 pro race was really amazing. This was a really cool race.”
As planned, I’m currently taking a break and taking care of certain personal matters in order to maintain mental clarity and happiness in our home.
“Getting everything in is the first priority because life is bigger and harder than a triathlon.”
“I have my eyes on both Vegas and the Grand Final, those are the two biggest races coming up and the ones that will determine the success of the season, before that I will be taking two weeks off before the next stop in London.”
Reflecting on the past six months, Long took pride in his performances, which resulted in six podiums and two wins at IRONMAN 70.3 Pucon and St. George.
“I’m super happy with the overall progress of the season, it is my best season to date, I’ve executed so much and I’m really happy to keep building and reset.”
