After a 300 mph collision, John Force was admitted to the neuro-intensive care unit with a head injury.

Update: Four days after his terrifying collision during the NHRA Virginia Nationals, John Force has been transferred from the trauma critical care unit to the neuro intensive care unit. A statement from John Force Racing said that the sixteen-time winner was hurt in the head when his car struck the wall at nearly three hundred miles per hour. The release also stated that Brittany Force, his daughter, will miss this weekend’s Summit Racing Equipment Nationals in order to spend time with her family and father in the hospital. Austin Prock, a teammate of hers, is competing in the AAA Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car this weekend.

After an engine explosion this past weekend, NHRA Funny Car driver John Force was engaged in a terrible collision. With help from the NHRA Safety Safari, the 16-time Funny Car champion managed to crawl out of the debris and was flown by helicopter to a nearby trauma center. Force was taking part in the Virginia Nationals of the NHRA, which was taking place at Virginia Motorsports Park, which is outside of Richmond.

His supercharged Hemi engine catastrophically failed during the first round of competition, resulting in a series of incidents that included multiple collisions with the retaining walls. After outpacing Terry Haddock in the victory light, Force burst through the traps at a speed of more than 300 mph. Force appeared to be fighting to keep control of his Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car when the engine blew out, and then the vehicle slid from the right lane to the left and hit the wall very quickly. The vehicle then crossed the course and made impact with the concreate barrier on the right side.
