SO SAD: aston villa key player jacob jamsey has been fired just now…..

Joe Gomez’s future has been up in the air for some time now. There is a significant amount of interest in his services from Unai Emery’s Aston Villa but according to a report from Football Insider, the Liverpool centre-back has no intentions of leaving the Merseyside club.

Gomez joined the Reds back in 2015 and he has been an important part of their first team for years. While he has yet to score a goal for Liverpool, he has featured in 224 matches for them over the years. He was involved in 51 matches last season, he started in 31 of those fixtures for Jurgen Klopp. He racked up over 3,100 minutes of first-team football with the majority of those minutes coming on the right and the left side of the defence. The 27-year-old featured in the heart of the defence in just five outings. His consistent performances and his ability to feature anywhere across the backline are what attract interest from Unai Emery’s team.

The Spanish manager has already added a lot of quality to his squad but he is still on the lookout for quality at the back. Diego Carlos’s future at Villa is uncertain, the 31-year-old Brazilian international hasn’t really got going at the English club and he could be on the move.

If he leaves before the transfer deadline, they were looking at Gomez as an ideal replacement. Emery’s team are quite keen on having the English international in their team. Both clubs have previously discussed a potential transfer of the former Charlton defender in a part-exchange deal that also involved Anthony Gordon.

The move collapsed back then and while Gordon is no longer a part of the conversation, Villa still might not succeed in signing the Liverpool centre-back. Gomez still has three years left on his deal which means the Reds will have a big say on his future.

More importantly, the player doesn’t intend to leave Anfield. He is committed to the project under Arne Slot and is willing to fight for a place in the starting XI.
