CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Ohio State found themselves in a strange position this offseason. They needed to replace a position coach who left Columbus to head north to Ann Arbor. Running backs coach Tony Alford bolted for the Team Up North and that left Ryan Day looking for a replacement. He found one at Oregon- Carlos Locklyn.

So far, Day likes what he’s seen from the new addition. “First off, when you hear about Carlos’ story, it’s captivating,” Day said on Wednesday. “Where he’s come from … and then you start to listen to his overall knowledge about the position, his aggressiveness in recruiting, the impact he’s had on people, the relationships he’s had with people, it was an absolute slam dunk for us.

Day has high hopes for Locklyn. “He’s already, in a short period of time, brought in an edge and a toughness and an aggressiveness that I think is going to be excellent.”

Locklyn’s story began as a coach in Memphis where he worked at four different high schools schools as an offensive coordinator. Tennessee made sense for him, he played collegiately at Chattanooga. After years in the high school ranks he caught on as an assistant at Memphis before stops at Florida State, Western Kentucky and Oregon.
