LeBron James Update: Is the Los Angeles Lakers Star c?

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James continues to perform at a high level in his 21st NBA season.

Having turned 40 before the start of the new year, James has shown no real desire to retire anytime soon. In recent years, he expressed his goal of playing long enough to share an NBA court with his son, Bronny James Jr.

Bronny, after two seasons at USC, chose to forgo his eligibility and was drafted by the Lakers in the second round. The father and son duo made history by playing together in an NBA regular-season game on October 22, 2024, when the Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103.

As for James’ future, he shared the following insights:

James has previously stated that he could continue playing for several more years, even after turning 40.

When asked about retirement, he told reporters, “It won’t be because I can’t play this game at a high level. To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play at a high level for another—it’s weird to say this—but I’ve got another five to seven years if I wanted to. But I’m not going to do that.”

While he hasn’t given an official retirement timeline, James recently joked about playing for another 10 years. On a recent appearance on the “New Heights” podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce, he was asked about a 2015 post on X (formerly Twitter) that predicted his decline at age 30. James chuckled, saying, “You know what’s funny? The same (expletive) guy said, ‘LeBron turned 40, this (expletive) won’t go on much longer.’ He’s going to be real upset when I turn 50.”
