Los Angeles Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka is making moves ahead of the NBA trade deadline, reportedly targeting Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner, who is on a $41 million contract.
With LeBron James still performing at an elite level in his 21st season, Pelinka is focused on adding key pieces to enhance the Lakers’ championship aspirations.
Turner, known for his elite shot-blocking and three-point shooting, could be the perfect frontcourt addition alongside Anthony Davis, providing rim protection and floor spacing.
The Lakers’ interest in Turner isn’t new, as they’ve been linked to him in previous trade discussions.
However, as the deadline nears, the urgency to secure reinforcements has increased.
The Lakers have struggled with consistency in the Western Conference, and acquiring Turner would address their lack of size and defensive presence in the paint when Davis is off the floor.
Meanwhile, Pelinka also addressed why Rich Paul, LeBron James’ agent and the CEO of Klutch Sports, didn’t push for Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox to join the Lakers.
Speculation arose that Paul, who represents both James and Fox, could leverage his influence to facilitate a move to LA.
However, Pelinka clarified that such maneuvering wasn’t realistic, emphasizing that Fox is happy in Sacramento, and the Kings are committed to their All-Star point guard.
As the trade deadline approaches, the Lakers remain one of the most watched teams, with Pelinka under pressure to deliver the right moves.
Whether they can land Turner or another impactful player remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—the Lakers are looking for immediate upgrades to maximize LeBron’s championship window.
