CONTRACT AGREEMENT: GM A.J Preller Reveals Dylan Cease Trade Discussion By Padres, Mets Amid Cubs Links. As Roki Sasaki’s Agent Addresses The Impact Padres Lawsuit Had On Pitcher’s Decision, Hurting Friars Chances..

San Diego Padres General Manager A.J. Preller has confirmed that the team has engaged in trade discussions for Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease, with the New York Mets also in the mix.

Cease, one of the most sought-after starting pitchers on the market, has drawn significant interest from multiple teams, including the Padres, who are looking to bolster their rotation after losing key arms this offseason.

The Chicago Cubs, Cease’s former team, have also been linked to a potential reunion, adding further competition in trade talks.

The Padres’ need for frontline pitching is evident, especially after the departures of Blake Snell, Michael Wacha, and Seth Lugo.

While San Diego has been aggressive in exploring multiple trade scenarios, Preller emphasized that no deal is imminent, as negotiations remain fluid.

With Cease under team control through 2025, the White Sox are in no rush to move him unless they receive a strong package in return.

Meanwhile, the Padres’ pursuit of Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki took a hit, as his agent addressed concerns over the team’s ongoing lawsuit involving former star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The legal dispute, stemming from allegations of improper medical disclosure, has reportedly influenced Sasaki’s perception of the franchise, potentially hurting San Diego’s chances of landing the highly coveted right-hander when he is posted.

While the Padres remain in the mix for Cease, the uncertainty surrounding their international reputation could impact future negotiations with top-tier talent.

Preller and his front office are under pressure to secure quality pitching to remain competitive in the National League, making the next few weeks crucial as trade discussions intensify before the season begins.
