Adelaide Crows coach Matthew Nicks send clear frustrated note to Josh Rachele

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has cleared the air with a frustrated Josh Rachele ahead of Thursday night’s clash against Richmond.

Rachele covets increased time in the midfield but openly queried why he wasn’t deployed more on-ball during the Crows’ 27-point loss to Hawthorn last weekend.

Josh Rachele, a young forward for Adelaide, expressed dissatisfaction with his on-field placement after the Crows’ 27-point defeat to Hawthorn over the weekend. Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks responded to Rachele’s remarks made throughout the week.

Admitted with a top 10 choice in the 2021 draft, Rachele is a powerful forward-midfielder who made a splash in the AFL, scoring five goals in his debut against Fremantle. However, he acknowledged this week that he finds it difficult to give up middle minutes.

Rachele, who only attended two center bounces during the defeat on Saturday, told 9 News Adelaide that he is keen to bring up the matter with his coaches.

“I didn’t play a lot of midfield again, and we didn’t get many inside-50s over the weekend,” Rachele said.

“Today, when I’m not getting a lot of ball, I’ll sit down with the coaches and ask them how I can inject myself into the game.”

When asked about Rachele’s remarks this Wednesday, Nicks said that he understood his annoyance and disclosed that they had since had a constructive conversation.

“This week, Josh and I had a really nice conversation,” Nicks said to the media. “He has been outstanding.

“Off the back of poor performance, sometimes, as a team, what can happen is some frustration, and we’ve worked our way through that.”

The Crows take on a woefully undermanned Richmond team on Thursday night at home under the lights. Though their defeat by Hawthorn in Round 12 dashed aspirations for a late season
