AGGRIEVED DEPARTURE: Miami Heat Legend Shares Trade Destination For Jimmy Butler. As 6x NBA All-Star Considers Major Career Decision Amid Spat With Pat Riley

Jimmy Butler’s trade request has sparked speculation about his next destination, and while the Phoenix Suns are considered a frontrunner, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal believes Butler would thrive with the Golden State Warriors.

Speaking on *The Big Podcast*, O’Neal highlighted Butler’s tendency to drive and kick out for threes—a style that could align perfectly with Golden State’s offensive system centered around Stephen Curry.

“I like [Butler] at Golden State,” O’Neal said. “Because when he was at Miami, he used to drive me crazy. [He’d] go all the way to the lane and kick it out for a three. That would work in Golden State because of the system they play.”

While ESPN’s Shams Charania previously linked Butler to the Suns, Warriors, Mavericks, and Rockets, there have been no concrete reports suggesting Golden State is actively pursuing him.

However, the Warriors’ current struggles—sitting at 21-21 and 11th in the Western Conference—might push them to explore bold moves ahead of the February 6 trade deadline.

Adding Butler to a roster featuring Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green could provide the Warriors with a defensive anchor and an additional playmaker, qualities they’ve lacked at times this season.

However, a deal for Butler would likely require significant assets, such as young players like Jonathan Kuminga or Moses Moody, along with future draft picks.

For now, the Suns remain the most likely destination for Butler, as they’ve positioned themselves aggressively by acquiring extra first-round picks in a trade with the Utah Jazz.

Still, the Warriors could emerge as a dark horse if they decide to make a splash and reignite their championship hopes.
