Texas Longhorns Announce Extension for GM Brandon Harris

On Saturday, head coach Steve Sarkisian agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in Austin through the 2031 season, quashing any speculation about a potential NFL move. Following this, on Sunday, general manager Brandon Harris also secured a contract extension, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and 247Sports. The new deal reportedly positions Harris as “one of the nation’s highest-paid college football front office officials.”

Harris, a former quarterback for LSU and North Carolina, recently completed his first season as the Longhorns’ general manager, having served as the director of recruiting since 2021. Alongside Sarkisian, the 29-year-old has played a key role in revitalizing the Longhorns, restoring their national prominence after a challenging decade in the 2010s.

Shortly after Harris’ promotion, Sarkisian spoke highly of his abilities and their strong working relationship.

“I wanted someone in that role who I was deeply connected with, and my time with Brandon has built that connection,” Sarkisian said. “He thinks a lot like I do, which is crucial. If I can’t be in a meeting, I need someone who’s thinking and speaking on the same wavelength as me.”

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Sarkisian added. “I think he’s a rock star in our profession and will hold high-level roles for a long time.”

Harris is part of a growing trend of former players transitioning into executive roles during the NIL era. Judging by his accomplishments, he appears to be one of the best in this new wave of football leadership.
