Miami Dolphins fans are eagerly anticipating news on the next contract for Tua Tagovailoa and when it will be finalized and announced. There’s considerable debate among the fanbase regarding whether he deserves to be paid as the top quarterback in the NFL or if a different approach is warranted.

Many fans argue that paying Tagovailoa an amount similar to or exceeding what Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence earn would be justified and a responsible investment. On the other hand, some believe he should be compensated at a level below Jared Goff. Currently, it appears the Dolphins are leaning towards a contract more aligned with Goff’s rather than Burrow’s.

However, a key question arises: if you’re paid as the best quarterback in the league, should you also be the best in your division? This leads to the query: Is Tua the top quarterback in the AFC East? Our rankings offer insights:

4. Drake Maye – New England Patriots

The Patriots are banking on two main factors: first, the belief that a former player with limited coaching experience can rejuvenate a franchise that parted ways with Bill Belichick; and second, the hope that a rookie quarterback can lead the team.

Drake Maye isn’t expected to immediately transform the Patriots into winners, and there are doubts about his ability to develop as swiftly as the team anticipates. His rookie season is predicted to be challenging. Simply put, New England isn’t structured to contend at the highest level in the near future.AFC East: Evaluating Dolphins' Jason Sanders, special teams | Miami Herald

At present, Maye is ranked as the lowest quarterback in the AFC East because he has yet to prove himself in any significant manner. His 2024 season is likely to be filled with obstacles and a steep learning curve. Until Maye adjusts to the speed of the NFL, the Patriots will heavily rely on their running game.
