Commanders Have Reportedly Made A Decision About No. 2 Pick

The extensive back and forth over what is going to happen with the No. 2 pick appears to be over, as the Washington Commanders have reportedly decided what to do after the Chicago Bears presumably select USC’s Caleb Williams first overall.

There have been other quarterbacks projected atop the draft board after Caleb Williams, namely LSU’s Jayden Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye, but Washington reportedly knows which one it wants now after an extensive pre-draft process.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini posted that teams trying to move up to No. 2 via trade are being told that Washington isn’t moving and that Commanders GM Adam Peters has publicly stated the Commanders feel great about staying in that spot and picking their quarterback.

It’s still unclear if Daniels or Maye will be the pick, but the overwhelming sentiment at this point would point to Daniels even though reports leaked that he wasn’t super interested in playing for the Commanders and was more intrigued by the Minnesota Vikings or Las Vegas Raiders in a potential trade.

As 2024 NFL draft nears, where are Commanders leaning with No. 2 pick?

If a team is trading up, the No. 3 spot looks like a much more attainable target, but the question there is how much teams like Maye if Daniels is in fact the No. 2 pick.

Daniels threw 40 touchdowns to just four interceptions last year at LSU along with 1,134 rushing yards and ten more touchdowns on the ground en route to winning the Heisman Trophy.

His profile and accomplishments sound a lot like another electric No. 2 overall pick that Washington took a few years back in Robert Griffin III.
