Texas Longhorns: Steve Sarkisian Signs 7-Year Contract Extension
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has agreed to a contract extension with the university after turning down interviews with two NFL teams. The new deal adds another year to his contract and comes with a significant salary increase.
Sarkisian is now set to be one of the highest-paid coaches in college football, earning $10.6 million. He holds a 38-17 record as head coach of the Longhorns.
Sarkisian’s Success Since Arriving
Over the past two seasons, Sarkisian has led Texas to a 25-5 record, including a 15-2 mark in conference play. The Longhorns are undefeated on the road at 9-0 and have a 10-5 record against top 25 teams.
The team has posted 20 wins by 10 or more points, averaging 34.4 points per game, while allowing just 17 points per game on defense. They also boast the number one recruiting class for 2025.
With the same coordinators in place for five consecutive seasons, Texas appears committed to retaining Sarkisian for the long term.
Sarkisian has guided the Longhorns to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances and double-digit win seasons for the first time in 17 years. His decision to decline NFL interviews further demonstrates his dedication and commitment to the University of Texas.
