When questioned about becoming a triple world champion, Christian Coleman, the world indoor silver medallist, left the interview.
Coleman competed in the men’s 100-meter race at the US Olympic trials in an attempt to earn a ticket to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, however he was unsuccessful, placing fourth.
Lyles won first place with a time of 9.83, matching his own best. Fred Kerley and Kenny Bednarek came in second and third, respectively, with timings of 9.87 and 9.88.
In a post-race interview, Coleman was asked about Lyles and he was forced to walk out of the interview before the interviewer even finished speaking.
Meanwhile, after the disappointing exit in the men’s 100m race, Coleman has a chance to redeem himself in the men’s 200m. He also has a chance to qualify for the men’s 4x100m relay team following his fourth-place finish.
As per USATF, three of the five competitors for each relay team must be athletes who are entered in their corresponding individual event and one reserve athlete can also be named. The other two selections are made at the discretion of the USATF committee.
American of Kenyan descent Hillary Bor entered the US Olympic trials hoping to win a third gold medal, but after falling and placing outside the podium bracket, he was unable to reach his goal.
The four-time national champion got off to a strong start in the heats, placing sixth before faltering in the race’s last leg to finish 13th.
The 34-year-old revealed to Letsrun.com that he entered the race with a fresh strategy, but things did not go as planned for him.
