Coach Dennis Mitchell explains why Olympics-bound USA women’s 100m team is unique.

Dennis Mitchell, head coach of Star Athletics Club, has shared the secret to his team’s success, which includes Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, and world 100-meter champion Sha’Carri Richardson.

After exuding elegance in the women’s final of the USATF Olympic trials held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, the three will fly the American flag aloft in the women’s 100m at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Richardson finished first with a world record time of 10.71, followed by Jefferson in second place with a time of 10.80 and Twanisha Terry in third place with a time of 10.89. Mitchell clarified that the three had earned it since they have worked really hard for it.

In an interview with Citius Mag, he revealed that he had not made many adjustments with the athletes following the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Mitchell stated that he always exhorts the women to be authentic since it’s a crucial quality to have.

He added that coaching Jefferson has been life changing since the 23-year-old is very hard working and is easy to adapt to the tough training sessions since changing coaches. He added that she is always eager to learn, something that has enabled her to grow and is slowly rising to the top.

“I was so excited and I couldn’t do anything but scream…you know this is something that these girls have worked hard for and to be able to accomplish and to be able to accomplish something of this magnitude on this stage and with the incredible girls that they had to run against, I just can’t describe it.

“Melissa is very hardworking and she is a smart girl and we went through a lot of changes this year and I introduced to her some new training workouts that were a little bit harder. She is always eager to learn and she needed all those things to get to this level,” he said.
