The Cowboys didn’t have to search long for a positive takeaway from their 38-12 loss to the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, despite it being their first defeat of the season.

 

 

Selwyn Cobbo appeared to be speeding away in the 49th minute after intercepting a pass from Scott Drinkwater with Brisbane leading 20–12 and the game hanging in the balance.

 

 

Cobbo seemed at home, even with the silhouette of Tom Dearden towering in the background.

 

However, Dearden persisted in getting closer and closer until, in a magnificent legs tackle, he brought Cobbo down to prevent the home team from scoring.

 

“Incredible. Dearden, Tom. “This is an incredible chase… a tackle from heaven,” Dan Ginnane remarked in a Fox League broadcast.

That joins the record of outstanding tackles that save tries. In the center of the field stood Tom Dearden. He has covered all of that territory.

 

Cooper Cronk, a halfback who helped win the premiership, however, said that one instance only served as a reminder of the reasons Dearden and Reuben Cotter were selected as this year’s co-captains.

 

 

“In the off-season, Todd Payten replaced the captaincy… and Dearden demonstrated leadership with that particular play,” Cronk remarked.

“This young man has accomplished a lot, but that deserves to be included in Tom Dearden’s highlight reel,”
