Lakers Issue Update on Bronny James Before Heat Matchup as $55 Million Star Prioritizes Fatherhood
Bronny James secured a standard roster spot with the Lakers after signing a four-year, $7.9 million rookie contract, but not without stirring up controversy. To accommodate James, the Lakers released rookie guard Quincy Olivari. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, this move also enabled the team to sign 6-foot-11 center Trey Jemison. The twist? Many believe the Lakers let go of a more talented player to keep Bronny on the roster.
Last Tuesday, James Jr. saw minimal action in the Lakers’ 118-97 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, playing just one minute without recording any stats. Now, the team has ruled him out of their next game against the Miami Heat due to illness.
Realistically, his absence is unlikely to impact the rotation. In his nine appearances this season, James has averaged only 2.4 minutes per game, contributing 0.4 points, 0.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists while shooting a mere 11.1% from the field.
