UFAs on July 1, 2025, Marner and Tavares will be able to sign new deals with the Maple Leafs this summer.

It’s possible that Mitch Marner is not traded by the Maple Leafs this summer if that is your expectation.

The 27-year-old, who can sign an extension with Toronto on July 1st, is choosing to wait and see what happens

instead of trying to close a deal this offseason, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic. Additionally, his team is not compiling a trade list.

“The Marner camp, headed by agent Darren Ferris, isn’t compiling a list of teams for a possible trade, as I stated a

few weeks ago. Marner, who is subject to a complete no-move clause, is focused on playing out the last year of his contract and observing the situation from there, according to LeBrun.

This implies that, come July 1, I don’t think there will be much desire to discuss an extension. The Marner camp

would want to begin the season and observe how things develop. I don’t think there’s a big appetite to start talking

about an extension this summer, but perhaps there are negotiations on one someday.”

This occurs amid conjecture on Marner’s future. Following Toronto’s first-round playoff elimination by the Boston

Bruins, it appeared more likely than ever that the Maple Leafs would trade for the forward.

Nevertheless, it seems that things may have altered in the last week or two.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said on 32 Thoughts on Monday, “One of the things a few people have told me is not

to be surprised if this plays out over next season with Marner in Toronto.”

Marner just had a season-ending high ankle sprain that held him out of Toronto’s starting lineup for about a month.

With 69 games played, he finished the year with 85 points (26 goals, 59 assists).

Throughout the first round versus Boston, the forward appeared in seven games and recorded one goal and two assists.
