Stockport County have a big summer ahead of them as they prepare for life in League One.

Stockport County have been promoted from League Two after winning the title.

They have gone up along with Wrexham and Mansfield Town, with one of MK Dons, Doncaster Rovers, Crewe Alexandra or Crawley Town set to join them through the play-offs.

Here is a look at what to expect from the Hatters’ retained list…

Duo to stay?

Stockport County goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe is out of contract next month and it would be a surprise to see him leave. He has been with the club since 2016 when they were in the National League North and has been a great servant.

Winger Myles Hippolyte provides useful competition and depth on the wing but his game time is likely to dry up if he was to remain. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the former Scunthorpe United man depart.

Right-back Todd Kane only joined on a short-term deal and Dave Challinor need to weigh up whether to offer him an extension or let him head out the exit door.

What to expect from the Derby County retained list this summer

 

The Hatters have a big decision to make regarding attacker Connor Lemonheigh-Evans. He has been loaned out twice to Notts County and AFC Wimbledon over the past couple of campaigns.

Meanwhile, back-up ‘keeper Jordan Smith is also due to become a free agent soon and his situation at Edgeley Park is up in the air.

Who to keep

Ryan Rydel and Ethan Pye will surely be handed fresh terms by Stockport County. The pair have bright futures ahead of them and the latter has broken into the first-team this past term.

Midfield duo Ryan Croasdale and Antoni Sarcevic have been valuable members of Challinor’s squad over recent times and although reinforcements are likely to arrive in their position over the coming months, they deserve to stay.

Right-back Macauley Southam-Hales is injured but it would be harsh to cut ties with him now.
