Heartbreaking news for Coventry City: He won’t play again

Coventry City injury news & return dates ahead of Southampton

Coventry City injury latest from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues squad prepare for their difficult trip to take on the Saints at St Mary’s Stadium

Coventry City continue to have three senior players out injured at the moment, one for the remainder of the season and two frustratingly close but not quite there in terms of their returns.

The Sky Blues have been operating without any senior striking cover in recent games after Matty Godden suffered an injury setback over Easter, while Jamie Allen is also yet to return from his cheekbone fracture due to a knock-on muscle issue on his return to full training during the international break.

And while neither would be starting right now due to the form of other players in their positions, manager Mark Robins wants as fully fit squad as he can call upon to navigate a hectic fixture schedule, with Tuesday’s trip to Southampton coming just a few days after Saturday’s energy sapping victory over Leeds United.

Asked if there were any fresh injury issues following Saturday’s brilliant 2-1 victory, Robins said: “I will speak to the physio once everyone settles down but touch wood they’ll be OK.” Here we look at Coventry ’s casualty list, including what’s been said and their expected return dates.

Matty Godden

What’s he done?

The striker suffered a calf injury when he went on as a second half substitute against Huddersfield Town on Good Friday and hasn’t been able to feature in the two games since, against Cardiff and Leeds.

What’s been said?

Mark Robins said: “He’s got a small problem with his calf but it’s been over a week now so he should be available sometime this week, but he won’t be available for Tuesday.”

Expected return date: Building into Saturday’s trip to Birmingham City (April 13).
