Heartbreaking news for Crystal Palace: He won’t play again

Oliver Glasner issues 21-word update on Eberechi Eze injury

Crystal Palace were without Eberechi Eze as they took on Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner provided a fitness update on star man Eberechi Eze after his side picked up a point against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was a doubt going into the match with a knee injury and ended up missing out of both the starting XI and the matchday squad. Speaking after the match, Glasner said: “We we close to starting him. We discussed it in the morning but it didn’t make sense to take the risk.”

Crystal Palace are next in action on Monday, May 6 when Manchester United visit Selhurst Park and Glasner added that he hoped that Eze would be fighting fit for that match.

The Eagles couldn’t add to their three top flight wins in a row but did make it four matches unbeaten with the 1-1 draw on the banks of the Thames. Glasner praised his side’s tenacity to come back from a goal down.

He said: “I’m really pleased with the performance and the willingness to get the point, the effort not to lose. I like to see that. We got the reward.

“We pressed from the beginning in their half and always had a good balance. We didn’t move the ball as quick as we can today. In the end we found the quickness again and scored the goal. It’s tough to win a Premier League game and we’re really happy.”

Crystal Palace missed the dynamism of Eze on Saturday and will hope the winger is still at the club next season amid transfer speculation. Confronting that this week, Glasner said: “We will see, but I think yes, of course. [They have] a contract here, first of all, and the second is they feel well, otherwise they wouldn’t perform like they did, but it’s not the right moment now.

“I’ve been in football for a very long time, and I think no team in the world can say on April 26 how the squad will be the next season. We don’t know, but we think that they will play for Crystal Palace next season.

“The focus is on winning the games and getting the points and staying in the league, first of all, and creating a unit, a togetherness, a way of how we want to play, a way of how we want to deal. This is what we were focused on, and so I didn’t talk to them, what they plan for next year.”
