Georgia injury report ahead of G-Day, 4/10/24
Georgia football’s “G-Day” is set for Saturday, but the Bulldogs will be without some familiar faces for their annual spring scrimmage due to injury issues.
The Bulldogs remain largely unscathed on the offensive side of the ball at this point in the offseason, but have lost some key players on defense. Obviously, there’s plenty of time ahead of the season to get these players back to full capacity, but it will mean missing the spring game for some of them.
Three defensive members between safety Malaki Starks, linebacker Smael Mondon and defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins will all be non-participants. Starks underwent surgery after the Orange Bowl, while Mondon and Ingram-Dawkins both continue to recover from foot surgery.
Here’s a look at where Georgia stands on the injury front with the weekend looming not so far away now:
Georgia injury report: Several players will miss or be limited for spring practice
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia starts spring practice on Tuesday and it will do so with a number of players either missing time or limited for practice. Kirby Smart, speaking with the UGA beat at spring practice media day on Tuesday, announced that a few of his players will spend the next five weeks working to get healthy.
When discussing the players who will be limited during or miss spring practice, Smart told reporters that all of them are expected to be back for the start of preseason camp.
Mondon was one of a few Bulldogs who eschewed an opportunity to enter the 2024 NFL Draft and elected to come back to school for one more year. He’s a two-year starter at inside linebacker and has piled up 144 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and four sacks over that time. The Georgia senior was less than 100 percent for all of last season as he battled a foot injury that he sustained late during 2023 preseason camp.
Starks has also started in each of the past two seasons, 28 games in all. The Jefferson High School product has tallied 120 total tackles and intercepted five passes since arriving to campus with the 2022 class and played a key role in his first year as Georgia won its second National Championship in as many seasons.
Robinson suffered a ruptured patella tendon prior to the start of last season. He was coming back from a foot injury when he went down late in preseason camp. As a freshman in 2022 the Mississippi native carried the football 68 times for 330 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scores came during mop-up duty as Georgia blasted TCU in the National Championship game. Smart says that Robinson will be able to participate in walk throughs.
The news wasn’t all bad on the injury front as Smart told reporters that sophomore outside linebacker Damon Wilson has recovered from the minor knee surgery he had before the Orange Bowl and will be full go during preseason camp.
