‘My immediate objective,’ Middlesbrough guy says of long-term future.
Tommy Smith, a Middlesbrough defender, has admitted he hasn’t given much thought to his long-term future with the club.
Middlesbrough’s full-back has missed a significant portion of this season due to injury and is now solely focused on his recovery.
Smith, 32, has made only six league appearances for Michael Carrick’s team.
According to TeesideLive, he has stated, “Right now, I don’t look too far ahead.” That was one of the first things the manager told me after I was injured, and it was very solid advice. He contacted me a few days later and said, ‘The best bit of advise I can give you is don’t look too far ahead, accomplish tiny goals, that way they’re a lot more doable’.
“So, instead of saying I want to be fit on that day or in seven months, I’m focusing on one milestone at a time, which is what I’ve been doing. From a personal standpoint, I need to get back in shape and on the grass.
He went on to say, “I’ve missed the day-to-day grind of being a player, as well as the training and travel to games.” My immediate desire and goal is to rejoin the team and be considered for future appearances. At the moment, I feel like I’ve missed it so much.”

Smith has another year left on his contract with Middlesbrough, which expires in 2025.
This offers him enough time to catch up before the next semester, which is great news for him.
The right-back will be eager to return and assist Carrick’s side challenge for promotion next season.
They did not make the playoffs this season, which is disappointing, but they lost a lot of talent.
Smith brings experience to Boro’s ranks while also adding competitiveness and depth to their defense unit.
He has made over 350 appearances in his career and scored eight goals.
The Warrington native is an asset in and around the Riverside Stadium dressing room, and he understands what it takes to make it to the Premier League.
Smith helped previous club Huddersfield Town overcome the odds in 2017 under David Wagner.
He joined the Terriers in 2012 after spending time as a youth at Tranmere Rovers and Manchester City, and he went on to play 200 games for the Yorkshire club before moving to Stoke City.
