Ottawa Senators Defenceman Thomas Chabot Out Again With Injury
Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot continues to have no luck in the injury department. Chabot has already missed 27 games this season and he’s back on the shelf again for tonight’s home game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Senators coach Jacques Martin said Thursday morning he doesn’t think it’s a long-term injury. Mind you, with less than three weeks left, even mild injuries might be season-enders.
“No, it’s something that he’s been dealing with the last couple weeks,” Martin said. “So we’ll just keep evaluating him on a day-to-day basis.”
Chabot has been on a nice run of late, scoring six points in his past six games.
But the injuries and ensuing absences have been piling up. The longest-serving active Senator has played just 44 of Ottawa’s 71 games this season. Chabot had surgery on his wrist in the off-season and missed all of November with a hand injury.
To backfill during Chabot’s brief absence earlier this month, the Senators called up defenceman Max Guenette from Belleville. This time it’s Tyler Kleven who will get a chance as the team takes stock of what it has in the prospect pipeline for next season. The team would love if it Kleven were ready to step in to help fill the massive physicality void on their blue line.
Martin is interested to see how Kleven fares tonight against the ‘Hawks.
“I think he’s a kid that has a good physical presence, a good stick, a more defensive-minded D, but brings a physicality to his game,” Martin said. “So I’m looking forward to seeing his performance tonight.”
