Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker suffers ankle injury in defeat to Utah Jazz

Devin Booker suffered an ankle sprain in the first quarter of the Phoenix Suns’ home loss to the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.

Booker left the game after landing awkwardly on his left ankle while jumping to grab a pass.

After scoring eight points on three of four shots, the Suns declared he would not be returning.

Booker has averaging a team-best and career-high 26.9 points per game this season, and he recently averaged 52.3 points per game over three games in the final week of March.

Booker’s injury left the Suns without five of their top players: center Deandre Ayton, guard Tyler Johnson, and forwards Kelly Oubre Jr. and T.J. Warren were all hurt and did not play.

Devin Booker #1 of the Phoenix Suns holds his ankle after an injury during the first half of the NBA game against the Utah Jazz at Talking Stick Resort Arena on April 03, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Phoenix Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker left Saturday’s game with a right ankle sprain suffered late in the fourth quarter of a 118-109 loss to the Houston Rockets before a sellout crowd of 17,071 fans at Footprint Center. Guarding Rockets point guard Fred VanVleet up top, Booker extended his right leg and lost some body balance when stepping on O’Neale’s ankle. Booker badly twisted the ankle, limped off the court and immediately checked out of the game with 1:15 remaining in the fourth. Suns coach Frank Vogel said Booker’s X-rays were negative, but will see how the four-time All-Star responds to the injury for Sunday’s home game against Oklahoma City in the second of a home back-to-back.
