Manny Machado Drops ‘Disappointed’ Admission Amid Padres’ Quiet Offseason, as GM A.J. Preller Hints at Multiple Big Additions Before 2025 Season Begins

San Diego Padres star third baseman Manny Machado has expressed his frustration with the team’s lack of significant moves during what has been a surprisingly quiet offseason.

Known for his candidness, Machado didn’t hold back when asked about the Padres’ approach to roster improvements following a disappointing 2024 campaign that fell short of expectations.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed,” Machado admitted. “We’ve got a great core here, but we need to keep pushing, keep adding pieces if we want to compete for a championship.”

Machado’s comments reflect a sentiment shared by many Padres fans who were hoping for aggressive moves to bolster the roster, especially after the team’s struggles with consistency last season.

Despite having one of the most talented lineups in baseball, the Padres failed to meet their postseason goals, leading many to anticipate bold acquisitions during the offseason.

However, the front office has been relatively quiet, with only a few minor transactions making headlines.

Responding to the growing concerns, Padres General Manager A.J. Preller addressed the media, hinting that the team isn’t done yet. “We’re always evaluating opportunities to improve the roster,” Preller said.

“Sometimes deals take time, but I can say we’re working behind the scenes on multiple fronts. There are still key additions we expect to make before the 2025 season starts.”

Preller’s track record of making splashy moves has given fans some reassurance, as he’s known for pulling off blockbuster trades and free-agent signings when least expected.

The Padres’ needs are clear—adding pitching depth, bolstering the bullpen, and possibly securing another big bat to support Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Xander Bogaerts.

With Machado voicing his desire for more aggressive moves and Preller hinting at big additions, the pressure is on the front office to deliver.

As spring training approaches, all eyes will be on San Diego to see if they can turn a quiet offseason into one that reignites their championship aspirations.
