St. Louis City SC striker Niko Gioacchini completes transfer to Como
St. Louis City SC has agreed to the transfer of striker Niko Gioacchini to Como in Serie B. The deal is for an initial $2 million and could reach $4 million pending add-ons, sources briefed on negotiations told The Athletic.
Gioacchini, 23, had a career year in 2023 with 10 goals and one assist in 32 matches (2,104 minutes). St. Louis selected him in the expansion draft ahead of the 2023 season after he spent half a year with Orlando City. Before that, he began his professional career in France.
Gioacchini has eight caps with the U.S. national team, scoring three goals. His last appearance for the USMNT was at the 2021 Gold Cup.
Como currently sits second in Serie B as they push for promotion to Italy’s top flight
Orlando City, Duncan McGuire have yet to agree on new contract
Orlando City and McGuire still have not agreed on a new contract, and interest abroad continues to stir. He could be a player to watch in the market by the end of the month.
Blackburn Rovers had multiple bids rejected but are believed to still be interested. Clubs around MLS would have interest in a potential trade if possible, but it’s unlikely Orlando would agree to send him within the league.
McGuire, 22, is likely to be on the United States squad at the Olympics this summer. He had 15 goals and three assists across 1,930 minutes across all competitions in his debut professional season in 2023, and just made his senior USMNT debut in a friendly against Slovenia over the weekend.
