This weekend, Beech Bend will host the Wally Parks Nostalgia Nationals of the NHRA.
In Bowling Green, Kentucky, the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is currently hosting the Wally Parks Nostalgia Nationals East at Beech Bend Park. Operations Manager and Producer, Patrick Wright, has shared that this annual event boasts a remarkable turnout, with over 400 race cars signed up to compete throughout the weekend.
Wright emphasizes the genuine passion of the participants, describing them as true enthusiasts and fans. Many of them are individuals or family teams who have dedicated countless hours to building their cars in their own garages, bringing them to the track for the thrill of racing.
This event, which has been a staple at Beech Bend Park for 22 years, is now in its second year under the name Wally Parks Nostalgia Nationals. Formerly known as the National Hot Rod Reunion, the event underwent a rebranding in 2023 to inject new energy and broaden its appeal.
Highlighting the nostalgic theme of the event, Wright notes that all participating cars hail from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, creating a unique atmosphere steeped in automotive history. Unlike modern races with electronically timed cars, this event exclusively features classic “nostalgia race cars.”
With an anticipated turnout of approximately 15,000 attendees over the weekend, the event promises excitement for both participants and spectators alike. The festivities kicked off on Thursday, June 13, and will continue until June 15.
Furthermore, all proceeds from the event contribute to the NHRA Motorsports Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of hot rods and drag racing. Through events like the Wally Parks Nostalgia Nationals, enthusiasts not only celebrate their passion for racing but also support the ongoing preservation of this iconic aspect of American automotive culture.
