Rams sign longtime Eagles backup running back Boston Scott to a one-year contract.

Thousand Oaks, California — Boston Scott, a veteran running back, signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday.
Scott played the most of the previous six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, rushing for 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns while collecting 71 passes for 566 yards and another score. He appeared in 75 games, starting 12.

Scott, 29, is best known for consistently having big games against the New York Giants, scoring 10 of his 17 career touchdowns versus the Eagles’ NFC East opponents. He’s ran for 422 yards and nine touchdowns, while also receiving 222 yards and another score.

Scott will compete for a backup spot with the Rams, who return with second-leading NFL rusher Kyren Williams as their primary ball carrier. Los Angeles selected former Michigan standout Blake Corum in the third round last week, joining returning backups Zach Evans and Ronnie Rivers.

Royce Freeman, the Rams’ second-leading rusher last season (319 yards), has signed with Dallas.

“I Doubt Aaron’s Going To Do That.” – Rams General Manager Les Snead Sows Just Enough Seed To Rumor Mill That Aaron Donald Coul;\D Just maybe return for a deep playoff run.

Aaron Donald will forever be etched in the memory of the LA Rams franchise, but his retirement could be shorter than a no-legged centipede.

Donald announced his retirement in March, but Rams GM Les Snead told the Rich Eisen show that the former three-time defensive player of the year could yet be called upon if the team makes a deep playoff run.

“I did mention to Aaron that going back to our Super Bowl run, that there was a player by the name of Eric Weddle, who kind of jumped into the playoffs, and we signed him to the practice squad,” Snead said. “And we standard elevated him for four straight games to a Super Bowl championship. So, I did mention if we happen to get to the playoffs again, maybe we’ll circle back and see if the cup’s not quite filled. But that’s just a rumor. I doubt Aaron’s going to do that.”

Less than two years ago, the Rams called up a bruised and injured Weddle, who not only snapped in every postseason game, but also guided the Rams to Super Bowl victory.

“Aaron’s one of those guys where he’s so principled, he might feel uncomfortable that, ‘You know what, I didn’t go through those other 18 (games) with the guys, I’m not sure I can go through the playoffs with them.'” Snead said. “I am not sure. We might tempt him. “No breaking news here.”

Snead made the off-the-cuff statement in such a way that it may entice Donald to win another ring.

The Rams must first win their division before Donald even enters the discussion.
