Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has had his sexual assault case dismissed after a Texas court determined that the allegations were “lacked merit.
Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, was the target of a sexual assault complaint earlier this year, but it was dropped for “lack of merit.”
Online court documents indicate that on Wednesday, Judge Angela Tucker of Colin County, Texas, dismissed the lawsuit.
In addition, the judge scheduled a hearing on September 13 of this year to decide whether to impose additional penalties on Victoria Shores, Prescott’s accuser, and her legal counsel.
Following the ruling, Prescott’s attorney, Levi McCathern, issued a statement.
“Justice has consistently prevailed and will continue to do so despite Ms. Shores and her legal team’s relentless efforts to extort money and damage Dak’s reputation,” McCathern declared.
“Ms. Shores and her group’s initial falsehoods, as well as their most recent, fruitless attempt to sue him in civil court, are all part of their ongoing extortion scheme against Dak.”
These strategies undercut the strides our society has made in providing care for survivors of real sexual assault and divert attention from their pain.
“We are appreciative that Judge Tucker concurs and proud that Dak speaks out against this injustice.”
Shores filed a lawsuit alleging that in February of 2017, the Cowboys quarterback, Prescott, had physically attacked her at a Texas strip club parking lot.
Prescott countersued her, claiming she had done nothing wrong. It’s unclear how the countersuit is progressing.
