NFL Twitter roundup: responses to NFL free agency from Tyreek Hill, Kirk Cousins, and Lamar Jackson
After an exciting week of free agency that shocked NFL players and fans alike and generated a lot of talk on social media, the dust is only now beginning to settle.
A number of prominent NFL players shared some eye-catching content on social media. Former Giants running back and current Eagles player Saquon Barkley traded jabs with former Giants running back and current New York sports radio host Tiki Barber. Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase posted some cryptic messages that led some to speculate that the Vikings might trade superstar wideout Justin Jefferson and reunite him with former teammates Chase and quarterback Joe Burrow in Cincinnati.
(The Vikings, who lost starting quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, are allegedly not planning to move Jefferson.)
But the emotional farewells to old teams and locations and the warm welcomes to new ones from players moving to new places weren’t the only posts on NFL fans’ accounts. The NFL’s best stars seemed to be as amazed by all the movements as the fans were, as evidenced by the humorous video game comparison made by Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner:
Players weren’t the only well-known figures to voice their opinions; a number of celebrities, including NBA star Kevin Durant, country music singer Luke Combs, and U.S. gymnastics legend Simone Biles—whose husband Jonathan Owens left the Packers in free agency to join an NFC North rival—also shared their thoughts on how free agency affected their favorite players and teams.
The greatest, funniest, and most widely shared social media posts from an extremely eventful week of NFL free agency are compiled here.
As the NFL community responds to the news, Saquon receives love from Barry Sanders.
Barkley may not have received much love from Barber, but Hall of Famer Barry Sanders sent him a far nicer note, which made him very happy.
