What was Caitlin Clark’s Sunday point total? Rookie fever shuts down in a blowout defeat.
The New York Liberty maintained their dominance over the Indiana Fever and standout player Caitlin Clark in a commanding performance. Right from the start, New York overwhelmed Indiana, securing a convincing 104-68 victory, marking their third win over Indiana this season.
Despite Indiana’s recent victory against the Chicago Sky, they found themselves struggling early on in Sunday’s game against the Liberty. New York swiftly took control, establishing a commanding 23-4 lead in the first quarter, which extended to a 21-point advantage by halftime.
Although Indiana managed to reduce the deficit to 12 points in the third quarter, New York promptly responded with another scoring spree, widening the gap once more. Throughout the game, the Liberty maintained a double-digit lead, except for the initial three minutes.
With this win, New York remains undefeated against Indiana this season, boasting an impressive average margin of victory of 27.6 points. Notably, this game marked the second time this season that the Liberty secured a 36-point victory over the Fever.
Caitlin Clark experienced her lowest-scoring performance in her budding WNBA career, tallying just three points in the game, a season low for her. The top pick of the 2024 season struggled from the onset, missing her initial four shot attempts, coinciding with the New York Liberty’s surge against the Indiana Fever.
Clark kicked off the second quarter with a successful 3-pointer, marking her sole basket of the entire game. During the fourth quarter, she seemed to undergo an ear check by the team’s medical staff. Subsequently, she briefly left for the locker room but returned to the bench before the game’s conclusion.
In addition to her three points, Clark contributed five assists, two rebounds, two steals, one block, and three turnovers throughout 28 minutes of play. Her shooting performance was notably challenging, with a 1-for-10 record from the field and a 1-for-7 record from beyond the arc.
Sunday marked the conclusion of an exceptionally demanding stretch in the WNBA schedule for the Fever. They commenced the season with a rigorous lineup of 11 games within a span of 20 days, leading them to play the highest
number of games thus far in the season. Following this intense period, they will now enjoy a well-deserved four-day break, their lengthiest respite to date. They are scheduled to resume play against the winless Washington Mystics on Friday.
