The WNBA has struggled until the emergence of Caitlin Clark, and it would be detrimental for the league not to safeguard its most valuable asset.
WNBA standout Caitlin Clark has sparked unprecedented attention in women’s basketball. Nevertheless, her rising popularity has stirred controversy within the sports realm.
According to Fox News contributor Guy Benson, the WNBA has faced long-standing challenges, with financial struggles persisting throughout its history. However, Benson emphasizes the significant interest Clark has garnered
at both the college and professional levels, evident in jersey and ticket sales, as well as TV ratings. He argues that it would be detrimental for the league not to safeguard its most valuable asset.
Former ESPN host Jemele Hill expressed concerns about Clark’s presence in the league, citing issues related to the athlete’s race and sexuality.

“We would be quite naive not to acknowledge the influence of race and sexuality on Caitlin’s popularity. While many people celebrate Caitlin’s achievements, including the players themselves, which have significantly impacted the game, there is a somewhat problematic aspect to it in terms of what it implies about the value and marketability of existing players,” Hill commented in an interview with ‘The LA Times’.
