St. John’s Chen, Georgetown’s Ruffolo Earn Weekly Golf Honors
Peicheng Chen, a junior at St. John’s, has been awarded BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week in a week marred by bad weather. BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week is Georgia Ruffolo, a junior from Georgetown. Both golfers played all three rounds of their respective tournaments and had great performances.
Chen posted a second-place finish at the Southern Invitational after shooting a season-low 8-under 205. He recorded 14 birdies and an eagle at the Falls Club while leading the Red Storm to a second-place team finish, their best this spring, carding a 5-under score. In the opening round, St. John’s shot a season-low 8-under par. Also, Thomas Finn set a school freshman record with a 65.
Ruffolo placed 14th in a rain-shortened GolfWeek Program Challenge in Pawley’s Island, S.C. She carded a 4-over 146 with a pair of 73s at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Ruffolo posted three birdies in each of the two rounds while also registering 20 pars with 10 in each round. The Hoyas finished 14th. They shot a two-day 42-over 610 (308-302).
grad student Wenliang Xie tied for eighth place in a field of 106 golfers at the Redhawk Invitational at the Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Park, Wash. He shot a 2-under 211 (73-70-68). His 68 in the final round helped the Pirates move up to ninth place in the team standings. It was Xie’s third straight under-par round… finished in a tie for fifth at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, S.C. The event was shortened to two rounds because of inclement weather. Senior Jimmy Paradise Dallahan fired a 67, which included six birdies, to go with a 74 and finish at 141, tied for 10th overall, his best finish this spring. Tommy Dallahan tied for 15th after shooting 143… also competed at the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate. The Musketeers took 12th place. The leader was Zach Burton, who finished 14th with a 142 (-2)… and competed in the Benbow Butler Invitational that was reduced to 36 holes. The Bulldogs’ Leo Zurovac finished eighth with a 2-under 136. Butler tied Purdue-Fort Wayne for the team title.
