SO SAD: This is the end of journey for Birmingham City two star players

Birmingham City could be without two players for Huddersfield Town relegation shoot-out

Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes the injury latest ahead of Blues’ game against Huddersfield Town on Saturday

Lukas Jutkiewicz is in a race against time to take part in Birmingham City’s deciding Championship matches.

The veteran striker has been sidelined since the middle of March due to a knee injury and hasn’t featured in any of Gary Rowett’s six matches in charge. When Rowett took charge, he suggested Jutkiewicz could be available for Blues’ final two games at the absolute best case scenario. Jutkiewicz wasn’t able to return to training last week alongside Marc Roberts and Oliver Burke, who came in from the cold to start at Rotherham.

Speaking at his opening press conference, Rowett said: “I know Jukey really well, he is definitely one that can help us around the group as well. The first thing he said to me is, ‘If I’m not available, I want to travel with the team’. That shows a lot about him. Jukey is always that go-to one to get you out of trouble.

“We’re hoping that he can recover. You’ll see him limping around but he’ll still want to play. I’m hoping he can still play some part of the season but I don’t want to put too much pressure on that with the injury that he had.”

Rowett will meet with the media on Thursday afternoon where Jutkiewicz’s availability will be one of the topics of conversation. Other than Jutkiewicz, Alfie Chang is the only confirmed absentee for Blues ahead of their relegation shoot-out with Huddersfield Town this weekend.

Blues travel to Huddersfield knowing a victory is needed. Both teams are currently inside the relegation zone and Huddersfield could be relegated if they fail to win. Here is the latest Blues injury news…

Lukas Jutkiewicz

Injury: Knee

Jutkiewicz went down in a heap in the closing stages of Blues’ defeat to Watford before the international break. The striker landed awkwardly after challenging for an aerial ball and had to be substituted. He has been travelling to games to support his teammates and hopes to kick a ball again this season.

Alfie Chang

Injury: Knee

Chang sustained a serious ACL injury during a training session in August and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old, who has since signed a new three-year contract, has been working with Blues’ physios in the gym and has started cycling to improve his fitness.
