Top Ranked 2025 Running Back Jonas Walton Commits to LSU Tigers, Picks Baton Rouge Over Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia

The LSU Tigers just landed a major victory on the recruiting trail.

Jonas Walton, the top-ranked running back in the 2025 recruiting class, has officially announced his commitment to LSU, choosing the Tigers over powerhouse programs like Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia.

The 5-star prospect from Buford, Georgia, made his decision public on Friday, solidifying LSU’s future backfield with one of the most highly coveted players in the country.

Walton, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound bruising yet explosive running back, has been a dominant force at the high school level.

He possesses a rare combination of power, speed, and vision that makes him a nightmare for defenders.

His senior season at Buford High School showcased his versatility, as he rushed for over 2,000 yards and scored 25 touchdowns while also contributing in the passing game.

His ability to run between the tackles, break off big plays, and contribute in multiple facets of the offense made him a priority target for several SEC giants.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly and running backs coach Frank Wilson played a crucial role in Walton’s recruitment.

The Tigers made him feel like a priority from the start, emphasizing how he could be the next great LSU running back in a lineage that includes Leonard Fournette, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Derrius Guice.

Walton was particularly impressed with LSU’s offensive system, which has been producing high-caliber running backs and NFL-ready talent in recent years.

“I just felt at home in Baton Rouge,” Walton said during his announcement. “The coaching staff, the atmosphere, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level made LSU the right choice for me.

I want to be part of something special, and I believe we can win a national championship.”

His decision comes as a significant blow to Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia, all of whom were heavily invested in landing his commitment.

Alabama had pitched its history of developing elite running backs like Derrick Henry and Najee Harris, while Georgia highlighted its “Running Back U” reputation with names like Nick Chubb and Todd Gurley.

However, Walton ultimately chose LSU, believing it was the best fit for his development and future NFL aspirations.

With Walton’s commitment, LSU continues to build one of the top recruiting classes in the nation for 2025, solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for elite talent.
