Trade deadline moves: The Lakers, who have been willing to pay the $211 million for the Philadelphia 76ers star they want, have finally completed the deal after…

Lakers expected to land $211 million overpaid 76ers superstar in a 3-team trade.

While many believe the Los Angeles Lakers will take a cautious approach during the trade season, a major trade could be on the horizon.

In a bold move, the Lakers may target a Philadelphia 76ers star, who is slightly overpaid.

“As the NBA trade deadline draws closer, teams are positioning themselves for potential big moves,” Newsweek’s Matt Levine wrote Monday. “Though NBA titles aren’t always decided by trade deadline moves, sometimes these deals can alter the course of a season.”

“A few trades have already been made that could impact the standings, but more transactions are expected before the deadline expires.”

“Several teams are looking to boost their chances this season, which could prompt them to pull the trigger on a deal.”

In one proposed trade, the Philadelphia 76ers could move on from star forward Paul George. Despite signing him recently, the 76ers might opt to correct their free-agent decision by shipping him out.

The deal would involve the 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls.

Using the Spotrac trade machine and adhering to new CBA restrictions, this is how the trade could look: Zach LaVine, Jarred Vanderbilt, and a top-10 protected 2029 first-round pick to the 76ers; George and a 2028 second-round pick to the Lakers; and Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Max Christie, Kenyon Martin Jr., Jalen Hood-Schifino, and a 2027 second-round pick to the Bulls.

Given that George is an aging, injury-prone star with limited playoff success, the 76ers’ decision to sign him to a four-year, $211 million contract during free agency was a bit surprising.

That said, George, known for his smooth ball handling and composure on the court, remains a talented player at age 34. While he can still score at a high level when healthy, he may not be a wise long-term investment in his 15th year.

George is averaging 17.2 points, shooting 42.3% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range with the 76ers this season.

However, with the Lakers looking to add another star alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis to escape mediocrity, George could be a realistic target for the franchise.
