Lakers Provide Update on Bronny James Ahead of Clippers Matchup

The Lakers have decided to assign Jarred Vanderbilt to the G League as he continues recovering from a prolonged injury. Vanderbilt is working toward his season debut after undergoing offseason surgery on both feet. Meanwhile, Bronny James will also be playing for the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. Does this mean both players will remain in the minor league for now?

It seems so, at least for the time being. However, since both players are on two-way contracts, they’ll remain closely connected to the Lakers and can be called up whenever needed. On a positive note, encouraging updates on Vanderbilt’s recovery have given fans hope. The team’s decision to provide updates on both players ahead of their game against the Clippers has also sparked interest.

Is Bronny James’ Health Influencing the Lakers’ Decisions as Vanderbilt Returns?

Bronny James has yet to make a significant impact in the 2024-25 NBA season, contributing just four points and three assists in nearly 22 minutes of play across limited appearances. In early January, he saw brief action against the Hawks and Mavericks, mostly during garbage time. Shortly after, illness sidelined him further. Once a standout at USC, James’ NBA journey has been paused since.

His G League performances have also been relatively quiet since a Dec. 27-28 doubleheader in Cleveland, his hometown. Across nine games, James has shown steady improvement, particularly after his first road game with South Bay on Dec. 12. However, his recent absence from action has left fans wondering about his next steps.
