Heartbreaking news: $163 Million Star has just left BC Lions

Alouettes 31, Lions 10: Life without Nathan Rourke a painful experience for B.C. Lions

The B.C. Lions (8-3)lost their second straight game without their star quarterback under centre, falling 31-10 to the Montreal Alouettes (5-7) on Friday night at Molson Stadium.

The Lions started Antonio Pipkin at quarterback, and he engineered a nine-play 48-yard drive to put them up 3-0 on the game’s opening possession, but he also gave up a safety sack on their second crack at it.

He didn’t last long, and Vernon Adams Jr. came in on the fourth series, but he saw limited success, getting sacked and throwing an incomplete pass in his first action as a Lions QB.

In the first half, they combined for four completed passes — just three more than punter Stefan Flintoft. They amassed 68 yards passing and didn’t get a first down until the final play of the half, when Pipkin hit Keon Hatcher for a 47-yard gain.Quarterback Mike Reilly back practising with Lions after ankle injury

Pipkin had more success in the second half, leading a seven-play, 33-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter, and going 13-of-24 for 174 yards and an interception. He also punched in a QB sneak major.

Trevor Harris, who supplanted Adams as the starter in Montreal this year, was 16-of-23 for 163 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

B.C.’s offensive stats were close to Montreal’s, but a bevy of turnovers — two fumbles, a pick, a safety, a strip sack, and two TOD hamstrung any positive gains they made.

The Lions will now turn their attention to next Saturday’s game at McMahon Stadium in Calgary against the Stampeders. Adams will have a full week of practice to get further comfortable with the offence, as he only saw limited action on Friday.
