I will never play for Wolverhampton again: key player has

Tommy Doyle, the departing Manchester City midfielder, has sent an emotional goodbye letter. He will join Wolverhampton Wanderers permanently this summer.

Tommy Doyle has sent an emotional farewell to his childhood club Manchester City.

Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on Friday that they had signed the player with an effective date of July 1. Doyle spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Molineux, and after impressing Gary O’Neil and club officials, Wolves exercised an option to make the signing permanent.

It ends the midfielder’s 15-year relationship with City, which began when he was eight years old. Doyle has a special link to the Blues because both of his grandfathers, Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, played in City’s 1968 title-winning team.

“Thank you, @ManCity,” he posted on X. “My boyhood club is a significant spot for me and my family.

“From the instructors to the academy’s backroom personnel to my teammates, you’ve given me friendships, lessons, and experiences that will last a lifetime. Wishing you all the best in the future!”

Doyle, who captained City’s Under-18 squad to FA Youth Cup victory in 2020, had seven appearances for Pep Guardiola’s main team, the latest in February 2021. Before joining Wolves, the 22-year-old spent time on loan at Hamburg, Cardiff City, and Sheffield United.

As part of the permanent move, the Midlands club will pay a £4.5 million fee and has promised to give City 50% of any future transfers. The reigning Premier League winners also have a buy-back option, so Doyle’s departure may not be permanent.
